Geological Data Centre and Research IT develop and operate the digital infrastructure that supports GEUS’ work and make geological data and knowledge about Denmark and Greenland available to public authorities, researchers, businesses and the public.
The department is responsible for the entire data ecosystem surrounding GEUS’ geological data – from collection and storage to quality assurance, analysis and dissemination. We develop and maintain central databases, digital maps, web portals and research IT systems that support both day-to-day operations and the long-term management of geological knowledge.
We are constantly working to develop new methods to make geological data more accessible and usable. This includes, amongst other things, research into data dissemination using artificial intelligence and the development of digital solutions that make it easier to find, understand and use geological information.
The department contributes to national and international collaborations on data standards, digital infrastructures and shared solutions that strengthen the exchange and use of geological data across government agencies, research communities and national borders.
Among our best-known solutions are the national geological database JUPITER, which collates data on, amongst other things, boreholes, groundwater and drinking water, and the European Geological Data Infrastructure (EGDI), which makes geological data available across Europe.
