On 8 October Peter Appel, GEUS, was presented with the Nairamdal medal by the Mongolian president H.E. Mr. Tsakhia Elbegdori, during his official visit to Denmark. During the visit, the president was received in audience by Queen Margrethe II and also met with the prime minister and the chairman of the Danish Parliament. At the end of the visit, a reception was held in Asia House at Indiakaj in Copenhagen. Asia House is an old house full of history and atmosphere, originally built as the headquarters of East Asiatic Company (EAC).
The Nairamdal medal, presented to Peter Appel, is solely given to foreigners who have contributed to strengthen the collaboration between their country and Mongolia. The motivation for the award of the medal is a project that Peter Appel carried out in 2005, concerning small-scale mining and the mercury-related risks, which small-scale mining poses to the environment and health.
